Artist's Books

Artist's Books

I made my first Artists' Book from drawings in a small home-made sketchbook. I wanted to make the jump from the flimsy scraps of a sketchbooks that I had made, and give the drawing more stature. The sketchbooks recorded tube journeys, they were very short and fast. The artists' books hold a journey- the format of turning the page is a journey. The long thin shapes are like travelling along.

Sketchbooks

I love the challenge to filling a sketchbook, of trying to draw differently in different sized books. I make myself fill a book in a specific amount of time- a day, a walk, or with one thing- trees, puddles. I find a vocabulary of marks through drawing and allow accidents, for example colour showing through a page, to take me somewhere else. I use sketchbooks to think about composition and how to fill a space. Making a repository that I can go back to. Learning how to look, remembering how to look!
